So first off, what began your interest in music and how did you get into house music more specifically?
I come from a musical family and so I've been studying music all my life. I got into house music when I met DJ/Producer, Matt Darey, who took me under his wing and showed me the ropes.
How would you describe your production style?
A mixture between techno, tech house, and progressive.
How did you come up with such a unique sound?
By spending far too much time in the studio and playing with all the buttons.
As we have all seen, you really came into the spotlight in 2009, starting with your massive remix of Deadmau5- "Strobe". What was 2009 like for you?
2009 was about trying to find a sound that I was happy with, and after lots of crafting and plugging away I believe I found that sound when I remixed Deadmau5- "I Said".
You are seeing tons of support lately from huge names in the house music industry, mostly from Pete Tong. How does this feel to have so much support for your productions?
Feels great! It's nice to know people are supporting your music.
Your collab with Chris Lake, "Domino's" and your remixes of Deadmau5- "I Said" and Meck feat. Dino- "Feels Like A Prayer" are just incredible, along with your upcoming Temper Trap remix. What other big tracks should we be looking forward to?
I've remixed a track I released last year called "Dropzone" which was heavily supported by Tiesto. I've decided to give it a twist which makes it fit perfectly into the kind of music I'm playing at the moment. I'm also working on two more tracks, one which will be coming out on Mau5trap Recordings and another which will come out on Toolroom.
Who has been your favorite producer to work with on a track?
Chris Lake. He likes the same kinda food as me - pizza and krispy kremes.
What producer would you love to work on a track with that you haven't had a chance to work with before?
Mark Knight, D. Ramierez, Laidback Luke - I love the way Luke mashes up mixes.
What can we expect from you in 2010 in terms of gigs?
I have some major gigs coming up. I'll be supporting Deadmau5 on his UK tour which means I'll be performing in London's Brixton Academy on 3 dates. I'll also be playing at Cream in Ibiza and also some Wonderland gigs
What is your favorite track at the moment?
"I Said" seems to really work in the clubs at the moment. I love the reaction from the crowd when it drops.
How do you get the creativity for a track?
I get all my ideas when I'm out walking the dog.
Describe an everyday experience in the studio.
Turn on the computer, find a sound, hit record, play a few notes on the keyboard, eat a pizza, mix down the recording, then record to a CD. Then eat a krispy kreme donut.
What does your studio look like these days?
It's like you're under the stars - I have all these tiny fiber-optic lights in the ceiling that resembles the sky at night. It's pretty cool!
Now a few quick ones. Favorite city to do a show?
Leeds
Favorite DJ/producer?
Sven Vath
What is your dream gig?
Ultrafest
Production software of choice?
Logic pro
Favorite plugin?
Esx24
Lastly, a word of advice for all the future DJs and producers out there?
Always compare your music to released material that you know works, and make sure your track sounds just as good - if not better!
